PESB recommends R K Tyagi, CMD, Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd as HAL chairman Print E-mail

Bangalore: The current Chairman and Managing Director of Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd, R.K. Tyagi has been recommended as the next Chairman of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd by the PESB.

He was recommended by the Public Enterprises Selection Board after interviewing three others, including S N Misra, PCDA (Navy) Mumbai; N R Myneni, CMD, MIDHANI and S K Tripathi, CMD, MSTC. R K Tyagi was earlier heading air logistics (20 helicopters) at ONGC. Tyagi has been with Pawan Hans from 2007.

Now Tyagi's profile will be examined by the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) which will send its recommendations to the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for the final decision.  Until the procedures are completed for Tyagi to take over, the senior-most director of HAL, Deskhmukh from HAL’s Nasik unit, will officiate as chairman.

The PESB Chairman, Secretary Defence Production), two other officials and HAL chairman Ashok Nayak constituted the interview panel.

According to sources, HAL did not have any eligible candidates from within the company. There was no director level candidate, with one year experience, who has two years of service remaining.

HAL has 19 production units and 10 research & design centres in eight locations around the country.

Meanwhile, T S Raju, current GM, HAL, was interviewed and recommended for the post of Director— Design and Development by PESB. On Tuesday Director (Corporate Planning and Marketing), Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and former Chief Test Pilot Squadron leader Baldev Singh committed suicide.

Ashok Nayak, is due to retire by October 31, but he has applied for an extension. Though the Defence Minister has the power to approve an extension, it will be for a maximum of three months.
