New Delhi: Renault India, the fully owned subsidiary of Renault s.a.s., launched its premium compact car – the 'Pulse' in India. "After having established the Renault DNA with products like the Fluence and the Koleos we now launch the Pulse which will enable us to reach a much wider segment of customers," said Marc Nassif, Managing Director, Renault India.

Renault Pulse is an offering in the premium compact car segment developed for the Indian market by Renault’s Design Center in Mumbai. It will be manufactured in the Renault-Nissan Alliance factory located at Oragadam in the outskirts of Chennai, which will also manufacture the engine. This is the start of localization of the k9K engine family in India.

By using Nissan’s existing V platform, Renault has been able to reduce development costs and lead times substantially. The Pulse is thus a prime example of the synergies generated by the Alliance.

The plant complies fully with Alliance quality standards and its production management system based on mutual knowledge-sharing and the best practices of both Renault and Nissan. Products by both companies can be seamlessly combined on the same assembly line.

The Renault Pulse goes on sale on India in January, 2012.

"The Pulse carries forward the Renault DNA of safety, quality and innovation and we are sure the customers will like this premium compact which combines all the luxuries of a bigger sedan with the economy of a small compact. We are not only adding to our product portfolio but we are also growing our sales and service network to address the needs of our customers," said Marc Nassif.

Renault made its debut in the Indian market with the launch of the premium sedan Fluence in May, 2011 followed by its second offering the luxury SUV Koleos in September, 2011 and now within six months Renault’s revealing the third product 'Pulse' gives the company a firm step forward in Renault India’s plans to introduce five cars in the Indian market by end 2012.

"Renault is fully committed towards the Indian customers, the launch of 3 new models within 6 months clearly demonstrates this commitment. India will witness the best product, power train, technology and design from Renault," said Carlos Tavares, COO, Renault s.a.s.

The K9K engine ranks among the best in class for daily city driving due to record low fuel consumption, essential for the Indian market—and it does not come at the expense of driving pleasure. Its fuel efficiency, responsiveness and reliability reflect the qualities of the RS27 engine developed by Renault Sport F1, which has just powered Red Bull Racing and Sebastian Vettel to the double crown of the constructors and drivers’ title in the FIA Formula One World Championship.

"Renault’s objective has always been to carry forward the technologies developed and fine-tuned by its F1 engine specialists to the world of production cars. In this case, the research into improving power train and fuel efficiency by reducing friction in Formula 1 cars has been applied to this engine," the company said.

The Renault-Nissan Alliance is the fourth largest automotive group in the world, and aims to rank among the world’s top three automotive groups for quality, technology and profitability. Renault’s international growth will result from its presence in high-growth markets such as India, Brazil, Russia and China.
