Delivering quality and developing the 'soft' skills of people and processes are the major challenges for the effective development of India's automotive industry. Across manufacturing and assembly, India might be building the capacity, but has much still to do to create the quality which a modern industry needs.

These issues are set to dominate the discussions at our major international conference AMS India in Delhi from 5-7 December, where the focus will be on manufacturing and assembly. The conference will bring together the principal domestic and international OEMs and tier suppliers.

The annual conference is carefully structured to maximise knowledge-sharing and networking among the 300 delegates who are expected to attend over the week.

Delegates to AMS India 2011 will also have the opportunity of a plant tour of the Maruti facility at Gurgaon on the day after the conference. Speakers on the formal conference agendas for 2011 include, for manufacturing: M M Singh, Managing Executive Officer of Production at Maruti Suzuki; Rajeev Wasan, Vice-President, Manufacturing at Honda Siel; Tom Chackalackal, Vice-President, Manufacturing, Ford India and Satyendra Kumar Garg, Director – Production at General Motors India.

The full list of companies on display at AMS India is: gold sponsors Microsoft, Siemens and Uddeholm Assab; technology partner IBM; silver sponsors ABB, Castrol, Durr, Eisenmann, Kennametal, Sames Kremlin Rexson, Kuka, Sandvik Coromant, Schneider Electric, Taikisha in alliance with Geico, Trumpf and Widia; and bronze sponsors AIDA, Combat Group, PTC, SICK, SSAB, TAL Manufacturing Solutions and Tornos.
