Ajay Shankar takes over from V Govindarajan as Member Secretary, NMCC Print E-mail

New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Shri Ajay Shankar, IAS (UP:73), who retired as secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, as Member Secretary, National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council. He takes over from V Govindarajan whose appointment was terminated by ACC.

Ajay Shankar has served as Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Principal Adviser in the Planning Commission, Joint Secretary/Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power, Chief Executive Officer of Greater NOIDA Industrial Development Authority and Secretary to the Lt Governor of Delhi.

He has rich and varied experience in the Central and State Governments in industrial promotion, the energy sector and urban management and development. He has been a Non Executive Independent Director of Tata Global Beverages Limited since April 30, 2010. He received an MA in Political Science from Allahabad University and an M.A. in Economics from Georgetown University, Washington D.C.

Shankar has been appointed on contract basis, for a period of three years or till the age of 65 years (whichever is the earliest) or until further orders.
