Bangalore: The Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal N.A.K. Browne said that the winner of India's Rs 42,000 crore military contract to acquire 126 medium multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA) would be made public in another four weeks.

"We are calculating very hard. There is a lot of work going on. I expect (in) another four weeks, we should be able to wrap it up. No matter how long it takes, we have to get it right. There are a lot of complicated figures. By mid-December we should have very good sense of who has been selected," Browne said.

He also said that the Indian Finance Ministry has cleared the deal for 75 Pilatus PC-7 Mk II basic trainer aircraft. The deal is worth $565-million (Rs 2,900-crore). "The deal will be presented to the Cabinet next week for final clearance. Contract signature will follow soon after," Browne said.

The IAF Chief was on his first visit to the city on Friday after taking charge, and inaugurated the 51st conference of the Indian Society of Aerospace Medicine. Browne was given a ceremonial guard of honour at the training command centre in the city and briefed about the activities at the southern station.

The two-day conference, which began Wednesday, reviewed training in information security, work processes, fiscal prudence and guidelines on procurement and discussed human resources management to ensure men and machine work in tandem for modernizing training methods.
