Thiruvananthapuram: G Madhavan Nair, former ISRO chairman, said that India has attained self-reliance in aerospace engineering with the active support of industries. He was speaking at the National Aerospace Manufacturing Seminar organised by the Society of Aerospace Manufacturing Engineers (SAME).
He said that ISRO and DRDO have played a vital role in developing aerospace materials. "The work of government industries and other private industries which manufacture aerospace materials in India are commendable. We are able to precisely produce aerospace materials," he said.
The theme of NAMS 2011 is the making, shaping and treating of materials for aerospace to provide a common platform to a wide spectrum of technologists, engineers, academia and industries involved in aerospace manufacturing to share their ideas, experience and goals.
Suhas Mahabaleswarkar, MD, Walchandnagar Industries, Pune presided over the inaugural function. Ravindranath, Director, IISU and John P Zachariah, Associate Director,VSSC were also present.
Various aspects of advanced manufacturing to suit the requirements of aviation and aerospace sector were explored in the seminar. It had six invited lectures and 35 contributory papers. Delegates representing leading aerospace industries and companies in the aerospace manufacturing sector attended the seminar. |
