S Sandilya on Council of Int'l Organisation of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Print E-mail

New Delhi: Paris based Organisation Internationale des Constructeursd' Automobiles (OICA), also known as the The International Organisation of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers, has appointed the new office bearers during its General Assembly held at Bucharest (Romania).

S Sandilya, the newly appointed Society of Indian Automobile Manufactures (SIAM) President, has been elected as a Permanent Member of the prestigious OICA Council by the Assembly. "Inclusion of SIAM in the council as a permanent member reflects the importance the global automotive industry is giving to India and recognizes the active contribution of SIAM in the global auto industry body," said Sandilya.

"As a council member, this will help us in highlighting the efforts that Indian Auto industry is making to sustain itself even when most of the auto markets around the globe are going through a rough patch," he said. Sandilya is the Chairman of truck, bus and tractor maker, Eicher Motors.

The OICA Council (or Board of Directors) is chaired by the OICA President (CCFA, Mr Patrick Blain).  Following the new appointments, the other OICA Council members are: ALLIANCE, Mr M. Bainwol, USA ;  ANFIA, Mr E. Razelli, Italy ; CAAM, Mr Dong Yang, China ; JAMA, Mr Y. Nao, Japan ; SIAM, Mr S. Sandilya, India ; VDA, Mr M. Wissmann, Germany.

The Assembly unanimously elected the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association (KAMA), represented by its President & CEO Dr Young-Soo Kwan, to the position of OICA 1st Vice President.  Mr Kwan was also elected as Treasurer of OICA. In addition, the OICA Assembly also elected two new non-permanent members of the Board for a mandate of 3 years, namely the Turkish manufacturers' association OSD, and the South African manufacturers' association NAAMSA.

SIAM is the apex industry body representing leading vehicle and vehicular engine manufacturers in India. The Society works closely with all the concerned stake holders in the formulation of rules, regulations and polices related to the automobile industry. SIAM is an important channel of communication for the automobile industry with the Government, National and International organizations.
