Mumbai: Siemens Ltd. has announced the appointment of Dr. Armin Bruck (44) as its Managing Director from January 1, 2008. Dr. Bruck is currently a Whole-time Director on the Board of Siemens Ltd., responsible for the Energy business. He succeeds Mr. Juergen Schubert who will continue to support the Board till the end of January to facilitate a smooth transition.

Dr. Armin Bruck is presently a Whole-time Director responsible for the Energy business of Siemens in India. He is also the Chairman of Siemens Building Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Dr. Armin Bruck, who has been in India since October 2007, will take over from Mr. Schubert who has spearheaded Siemens Ltd. for nearly 12 years and steered the Company onto a highly profitable growth path.

Mr. Schubert came to India in 1996 at a time when the Company was passing through a tough period. Within the first few weeks, he outlined a restructuring program and successfully brought the company back to profitability in a short span of two years.  Due to his highly customer centric approach, he had an excellent understanding of the markets and its success drivers. As an ambassador for India’s engineering capabilities, he drew up an investment led growth strategy with a strong focus on strengthening the local manufacturing base in India, to serve the domestic as well as export markets.  Today, the Company is a Center of Competence for several products manufactured locally. Under Mr. Schubert’s astute leadership of more than a decade, Siemens in India chartered new territories and achieved global recognition.

Welcoming the appointment of Dr Armin Bruck as the next Managing Director, Mr. Deepak Parekh, Chairman, Siemens Ltd., said, “ It gives us a great pleasure to announce the appointment of Dr. Armin Bruck as the successor of Mr. Juergen Schubert.  Dr. Bruck comes with a rich experience of handling diverse businesses of Siemens in Germany and abroad. Having worked extensively in Asia is a great advantage and he will definitely be an asset for running the Siemens operations in India.”

Thanking Mr Schubert for his valuable contribution to the company, Mr Parekh further added, “Mr Schubert, during his tenure of nearly 12 years in India, has guided Siemens on to a robust growth path. His contribution to Siemens is immeasurable, as he has etched an important era in the history of Siemens in India, bringing it to a glorious peak. And, it is at this high point that he chooses to gracefully hand over the baton. We are immensely thankful to Mr. Schubert for his outstanding contribution over these years, which has brought the Company into the ‘Champion’s League’, not only in the Siemens world, but also on independent standing in Asia. Today, Siemens is one of the most respected and valued companies in India with an excellent reputation and image.”

Says Mr. J Schubert, “Personally for me, it has been a remarkable and enriching journey over the last 12 years. The challenge of bringing the company out of losses, achieving stability and finally taking it on the growth path, has given me an overwhelming feeling of fulfillment. During all this time, I had a great support from my team in India and I am extremely thankful to them for their wholehearted contribution. Today, Siemens has carved a niche for itself and is riding on the growth path in all its businesses. I am confident that under the leadership of Dr. Armin Bruck, the Company will realize, with new ideas, the ambitious goals set for us in India.”  He further added, “I will cherish each and every moment spent in this country. I feel that my stay here in India has made me a better person, in both the personal and professional sphere. When I go back home, it will be with a feeling of pride and immense satisfaction.”

On the announcement of his appointment, Dr. Armin Bruck said, “I am very honoured, proud and excited to take over this challenging position. India is a top priority market for Siemens worldwide, as it offers tremendous opportunities domestically, as well as serves as a  global export hub. My predecessor Mr. Schubert has set many benchmarks and Siemens Ltd. is today recognized as one of the fastest growing companies in India. This presents a greater challenge for me, not only to keep the momentum, but also to achieve newer heights, which I am eagerly looking forward to.”

Having done his PhD in Operations Research from the University of Mannheim, Dr. Bruck joined Siemens in 1987 as Account Manager, Data Systems in Germany. During his 20 years of tenure in Siemens, Dr. Bruck has handled varied assignments across business groups in Germany and abroad.  Prior to his assignment in India, Dr. Armin Bruck was the President of the Energy Automation Division, which was part of the Power Transmission and Distribution Group of Siemens AG.
