Pune: Last week a major German delegation from the state of North Rhein Westphalia, headed by  economy and power minister Christa Thoben was in the city to explore the possibilities of further business between the two countries. Incidentally Germany is India's 6th largest trade partner and the trade volumes touched 6 billion Euros last year.

Barring a few,  most of the tie ups are in the small and medium scale. The joint ventures are mainly in Automobile industry, Automation Industry, Engineering services, food technology, pollution control etc. The recent MoU between Neil soft of Pune and Triplane of Germany is worth 40 million Euros in the plant design solutions.

Pune is a major hub of Indo-German joint ventures in the manufacturing and service sector with more than 250 joint ventures already operational in this city.

Pune's emergence as an engineering and automotive hub has attracted German companies. Educated and skilled man power, the culture and its proximity to Mumbai are seen as the factors favoring Pune. Interestingly many schools in Pune teach German and German speaking man power is another reason for the Germans to feel comfortable with Pune.
