Tata Motors to source components for Nano from Amtek Auto |

Auto component maker Amtek Auto Ltd has been chosen by Tata Motors to be the key supplier for engine and suspension components for its small car, Nano.It will supply parts like balancer shafts, crankshafts, connecting rods, cylinder block and head, spindles, front and rear brake drums, steering knuckle for the Nano.
The company is currently building a large facility exclusively for supplying components to the Tata Motors small car project.
Amtek Group was established in 1985 with the incorporation of the flagship company, Amtek Auto Limited. It supplies a wide variety of components and assemblies to leading global vehicle original equipment manufacturers. It has emerged as a frontrunner in the global automotive component industry with a worldwide presence across USA, Europe, and Asia. Amtek's manufacturing capabilities include Iron and Aluminum Castings, Forgings, Complex Machining & Ring Gears Flywheel Assembly.
In India, Amtek is a Tier – I supplier to OEMs like Maruti, Kinetic, Escorts and M & M Tractors etc. Its foundry is one of the biggest in the country with a capacity of 30000 tpa and it has got an installed capacity of 75 lakh auto components per annum. Having two manufacturing units the company is the biggest producer of gear shifter forks and yokes in India. Amtek Group has nearly got 35% market share of the global market of ring gears.
The company recently raised Rs 1,012 crore by way of allotment of preferential shares and warrants to the promoter group. This additional capital will help fund an expansion strategy that will enable Amtek Auto to clock 25-30% CAGR over the next three to four years. The group has invested over Rs 1,200 crore in the past two years for capacity expansion across all its existing facilities and has also set up greenfield facilities in Sanaswadi, Ranjangaon, Bhiwadi, Dharuhera, Coimbatore and Baddi.
Currently the company is building a new forging facility in Dharuhera near Gurgaon which will exclusively make heavier forgings and the first phase of this project is expected to be commissioned by June 2008 and will add a further 20,000 TPA to Amtek’s capacity. The forging capacities at Amtek’s subsidiary Ahmednagar Forgings is also being further expanded by additional 55,000 TPA by next year end.
The current capacity for Aluminium HPDC in Amtek’s Ranjangaon (Pune) facility is 20,000 TPA. Much of the capacity expansion is based on the firm orders from Amtek’s global customers and also the captive demand for forgings, iron and aluminium castings from its overseas subsidiaries. |
