Pune: The Auto Expo exhibition held at Pragati Maidan in Delhi earlier this month saw a six-foot tall golf robot hit the ball right into the hole at a success rate of 97 per cent. Working  on the principle of three-axis servo-operated robot the mechanical golfer can repeat the feat periodically depending on the time gap that has been set for it.

Designed by Pune-based Precision Automation and Robotics India (PARI) the robot is the brain child of Dr Ranjit Date, the joint managing director of the company. Dr.Date, an ardent golf player himself, felt that the precision of the game could be used to show accuracy through automation.

It took four months for a team of four design engineers from PARI and three final- year engineering students from the Sinhagad College of Engineering to design, manufacture, integrate and finally try the project. The project was so complicated that some components for the robot like the gear box had to be imported from Japan. The robot is now being used as a classical example of accuracy and precision for referral studies.

Although growth in the manufacturing of robots is much faster in India than any other country, PARI is the only automation and robotic solution provider company to different industries in India. The company also supplies robotic solutions to other countries like the USA, Canada and France.
