Chennai: PSL Limited has commissioned it's new 300,000 MT per annum helical two-step (HTS) Vizag pipe manufacturing facility. PSL has also commissioned 150,000 MT worth of pipe manufacturing capacities at its Madhuranthakam facility, near Chennai.

The Vizag pipe manufacturing facility will cater to the growing gas pipeline market by providing large-diameter steel pipes and coating services in the Eastern part of the country.

"With the inauguration of this new state-of-the-art, two-step pipe mill in Visakhapatnam, the company is proud to be a part of the rapidly developing gas transmission story throughout India.  In commissioning this facility on schedule, and within close proximity to the Krishna-Godavari Basin, both PSL and its clients shall gain from the freight-savings that will accrue by eliminating the costly transportation of pipes that otherwise would have been necessary from other, more distant pipe supply-centres.  The company’s Visakhapatnam pipe mill is ready to pass on this cost-reduction to various customers along the value-chain, and is therefore fully-geared to play its part in meeting the increase in gas demand throughout the nation," said Ashok Punj, MD, PSL Limited.

PSL undertakes manufacturing and coating of pipes for transporting hydrocarbon products, water products, and steel structural applications. It is the largest manufacturer of high-grade large diameter Helical Submerged Arc Welded (HSAW) pipes in India.

"The Company has always followed a strategy of having manufacturing facilities close to the location of consumption in India.  PSL, a key enabler of infrastructure projects both within India and abroad, has thus developed numerous API-certified pipe mills near demand-centres across the country, which will go a long way in serving the upcoming oils and gas projects being implemented all over India," he added.

The two capacities have been strategically positioned in these locations so as to enhance the company’s regional manufacturing presence near energy & infrastructure projects coming up in the Eastern & Southern parts of the country.

The company is now equipped to cater to the upward trend in demand for steel pipe resulting from the various projects being implemented by large companies such as GAIL, Reliance, GSPL, Cairn Energy, GMR, and others.
