Starrag Heckert will be initially importing the machines from Germany and subsequently localizing them with optimized features and utilizing the Indian supplychain. The company targets 10 to 15 percent of the 600# potential 4 axis HMC market from sectors such as Trucks, Tractors, Earth Movers, Valves, Machinery.

"We will target 40% localized inputs in value terms for the WMW 4axis horizontal machining centers," said A.N.Chandramouli, Managing Director of Starrag Heckert Machine Tools Pvt Ltd, India. With this there will be a cost reduction of nearly 30 percent. "Very soon we may be contributing to the production of fixtures for the global market from here."

Many of the functional parts of machine tools are still imported from Japan and Germany. The company is expected to initiate talks with it's German supply chain companies to set up shop in India.

There are also long term plans to produce 5-axis machining centers from the new facility.

"When the factory is up, we expect to export 30 percent of our production to the Asian market," he said.

The new facility will employ approximately 200 people. They will be trained through the Swiss Vocational Education and Training Initiative, which has already initiated in collaboration with Swiss-Indian Chamber of Commerce. The machines produced in the new factory will be supported by tooled up solutions from the Tech-center. The Tech-center will ultimately be relocated to the new facility.

"The purpose of this Tech-center is to support Indian customers in Application and Turnkey solutions. Here we will undertake Turnkey Projects which involves Proposal engineering, Application Engineering, Fixture and Tool engineering, Application and Fixture manufacturing for various customers in Transport/Automobile, Power generation equipment, Agriculture equipment & Construction equipment manufacturers," said Chandramouli.
