Mumbai: China's largest commercial vehicle maker, Beiqi Foton Motor will source engines from Cummins for its manufacturing facility, which is slated to be set up in Pune. The plant will have an installed capacity of 1,00,000 units per year.

The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Maharashtra government to invest Rs 1,676 crore to set up a manufacturing facility in Maharashtra. The company is looking for around 250-300 acre land near Pune to set up the facility.

Beiqi Foton Motor India Executive Vice-President R Shankar said that the company was in talks with the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) for acquiring land near Pune. He said that they would get the required land at Chakan within two months.

Beiqi Foton Motor, which has 14 plants in China and has JVs and partnerships with Cummins Inc and Dialmer Trucks, plans to bring its light, medium and heavy commercial vehicle range to the domestic market.

Cummins India manufactures diesel and natural gas engines for power generation, industrial and automotive markets. Cummins is currently providing engines for Beiqi Foton Motor's China facilities.

It has been recently reported that Beiqi Foton Motor plans to conduct a private placement to 10 designated investors (including Beiqi Group and a number of mutual funds) in order to raise up to CNY 5 billion to upgrade its cars and to inject capital into Beijing Foton Cummins Engine.
