Agratas, the global battery business of the Tata Group, is advancing construction work on its battery manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat, which is planned to have an annual capacity of 20 GWh in its first phase. The company said the structural steel framework is nearing completion as activity accelerates across the site.
Agratas is also developing its supply chain infrastructure alongside the construction of the facility. The company said it is deploying advanced systems aimed at improving efficiency and enabling real-time visibility across the network. Planned supply chain operations include an integrated sales and operations planning system designed to connect demand, supply and inventory management across imports, exports and domestic logistics.
“Our supply chain will provide resilience, visibility, and speed by design. From automation to sustainable transport, every aspect has been engineered to meet global standards while contributing to India’s clean energy mission,” said Anand Sodha, vice president – Supply Chain.
The 320-acre facility is being developed with the support of more than 2,000 construction workers and over 700 staff from vendor organisations. The company stated that the plant is expected to enhance domestic capability in advanced battery cell manufacturing once operational.
“The progress at Sanand reflects the dedication and pace of our teams as we bring our vision to life. Each phase of construction takes us closer to our goal of building one of the most advanced manufacturing facilities in the country,” said Anand Sodha.
Two Tata Group companies, Tata Projects Limited and Tata Consulting Engineers, are working with Agratas on the development of the facility.
“Our expertise in delivering large-scale manufacturing projects enables us to construct world-class facilities efficiently, while ensuring sustainable practices are embedded throughout the process,” said Rahul Sharma, Strategic Business Unit Head – Urban Built Form at Tata Projects.
Agratas is the Tata Group’s dedicated global battery business focused on the development and production of advanced battery technologies for applications across mobility and energy storage.
