Mobis India, a supplier of automotive modules, components, and battery systems for electric vehicles (EV), has inaugurated a new EV battery system assembly (BSA) plant in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, with an initial production capacity of 36,000 units annually, scalable up to 75,000 units. The facility will assemble Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt (NMC) battery systems for Hyundai’s electric vehicles, starting with the Creta Electric.

The plant is located on an 8.15-acre site adjacent to Hyundai Motor India Limited’s manufacturing facility. It features automated assembly lines, robotic systems, and quality control processes. According to the company, the facility will later include the capability to produce Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) battery systems.

Mobis India stated that the plant is expected to create 255 direct and indirect jobs. The company noted that the investment aligns with Hyundai’s plans to localize EV production in India.

“This facility reflects our resolve to support India’s clean mobility vision, aligned with ‘Make in India’ and Hyundai’s local EV production goals. Tamil Nadu’s forward-thinking industrial ecosystem has been key to this progress,” said Park Ki Chul, Managing Director of Mobis India.

Mobis India Limited is a subsidiary of Hyundai Mobis, the parts and services arm of Hyundai Motor Group. It supports Hyundai’s operations in India by supplying automotive modules, components, and now battery systems for electric vehicles.
