Hyundai KEFICO has started construction on a new manufacturing facility in India, with mass production expected to begin in 2026. The plant is being built in the Electronic Manufacturing Cluster in Pillaipakkam, Kanchipuram, Chennai.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on February 10 to mark the commencement of the project. The event was attended by Jung Tae-sung, President of Hyundai KEFICO India, along with local employees, dispatched staff, officials from the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT), and representatives from partner companies.

In addition to Hyundai KEFICO’s new facility, Hyundai Motor India is enhancing its production capabilities. The company plans to operationalize its Pune plant, acquired from General Motors, in the latter half of next year, adding over 200,000 vehicles annually to its existing capacity of 824,000 units at the Chennai plant. This expansion will elevate Hyundai Motor India’s total annual production capacity to over one million vehicles. Kia India, another subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group, is also increasing its annual capacity to 431,000 vehicles within the first half of this year. Collectively, these efforts will boost the group’s production capacity in India to approximately 1.5 million vehicles annually.

Hyundai Motor Group is also focusing on the electric vehicle (EV) market in India. Hyundai plans to introduce its first locally produced electric SUV by the end of 2024, with a total of six EV models expected by 2030. To support this initiative, the company aims to expand its EV charging station network to 485 by 2030. Kia India is set to launch its first locally produced EV model in 2025 and intends to further diversify its EV lineup.

These strategic investments and expansions underscore Hyundai Motor Group’s commitment to strengthening its manufacturing base and competitiveness in the Indian automotive market.
