Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has inaugurated two new testing facilities in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, aimed at enhancing SUV safety and advancing battery technology. These facilities, including a passive safety lab and a battery and cell research lab, represent an investment of over ₹300 crore, according to a press release issued by the company.
The passive safety lab will enable Mahindra’s engineering teams to conduct a range of safety tests for SUVs, addressing multiple load scenarios to assess and improve vehicle safety. Additionally, the battery and cell research lab will focus on developing advanced battery cell technologies to support electric vehicle development.
Situated approximately 55 kilometers from Mahindra’s Mahindra Research Valley (MRV), these labs are designed to work alongside the Mahindra SUV Proving Track (MSPT). The MSPT facilitates testing on various terrains and under diverse conditions, which aids in the engineering of Mahindra SUVs.
Velusamy R., M&M President of Automotive Technology & Product Development, stated that the new facilities provide the necessary resources to further Mahindra’s safety and sustainability goals.
This investment aligns with Mahindra’s ongoing strategy in the automotive sector, prioritizing safety and innovation as it seeks to meet both national and international standards for vehicle performance and safety.
