NITI Aayog’s Frontier Tech Hub has unveiled a national roadmap titled “Reimagining Manufacturing: India’s Roadmap to Global Leadership in Advanced Manufacturing”, outlining a long-term strategy to transform India into an advanced manufacturing powerhouse by 2035.

Developed by NITI Aayog’s Frontier Tech Hub in collaboration with CII and Deloitte, the roadmap presents a structured plan to elevate manufacturing’s share of India’s gross domestic product (GDP) to 25 percent and generate more than 100 million jobs by 2035. The initiative aligns with the government’s vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 (Developed India @2047) and aims to position India among the top three global hubs for advanced manufacturing.

According to the document, the strategy focuses on 13 high-impact sectors grouped into five core clusters, targeting structural challenges in research and development (R&D), industrial infrastructure, workforce skills, sustainability, and micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) enablement. The roadmap emphasises enhancing supply chain resilience, promoting design-led innovation, and integrating digital traceability to strengthen India’s role in global value chains.

Four frontier technologies—Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Advanced Materials, Digital Twins, and Robotics—have been prioritised for deployment at scale. NITI Aayog noted that these technologies will drive productivity, precision, and innovation across industries. The report cautioned that delayed adoption could lead to a potential loss of USD 270 billion in additional manufacturing GDP by 2035 and USD 1.1 trillion by 2047.

The roadmap outlines a three-phase implementation plan covering fiscal years 2026 to 2035: ecosystem building and adoption, acceleration, and sustenance. Key measures include establishing a Global Frontier Technology Institute, creating 20 plug-and-play frontier technology industrial parks, and integrating advanced manufacturing as a strategic pillar under the National Manufacturing Mission to ensure coordinated adoption across government and industry.

If executed effectively, the initiative is projected to unlock an additional USD 1 trillion in manufacturing GDP by 2047, increase India’s share of global exports to 6.5 percent, and strengthen technological self-reliance. NITI Aayog stated that this transformation would be pivotal in achieving sustainable, innovation-driven industrial growth and positioning India as a global leader in advanced manufacturing.

The roadmap was released at an event in Mumbai attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, NITI Aayog Chief Executive Officer B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, State Minister Madhuri Misal, Chief Economic Adviser to the Chief Minister and MITRA Chief Executive Officer Praveen Pardeshi, NITI Aayog Distinguished Fellow Debjani Ghosh, and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Director General Chandrajit Banerjee.
