Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI), a state-run producer of speciality steels and superalloys, has received certification from the Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification (CEMILAC) for the indigenisation and airworthiness of materials used in the AL31FP aero engine that powers the SU-30MKI fighter aircraft.

The certification covers the development and qualification of advanced superalloys, titanium alloys, and special steels. The approval allows MIDHANI to begin series production of these materials for the domestic aerospace sector.

The certified materials include superalloys such as Supercast BZL1, Superni 648, and ZS 6Y; titanium alloys OT 4-1 and Titan 33A; and special steels AE 866W and 16XH3BFMB-W. These high-performance alloys are used in jet engine components designed to withstand extreme temperature and stress conditions.

To support expanded production, MIDHANI has commissioned a dedicated Titanium Shop and installed a 6,000-tonne near-isothermal forge press. The company has also enhanced its capabilities in Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM) and single-crystal superalloy production, strengthening its role in the indigenous supply chain for advanced defence materials.

Established in 1973, Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited operates under the Ministry of Defence and manufactures superalloys, titanium, special steels, and other high-performance materials for the aerospace, defence, and energy industries. The company is headquartered in Hyderabad, India.
