The contract for the construction of 11 ACTCM barges was awarded to the MSME shipyard on 5 March 2021. The company has since delivered 10 barges, with LSAM 25 marking the final vessel under the order. Delivery of the first barge, LSAM 15, was completed in June 2023. Several of the barges have already been inducted at naval bases such as INS Tunir and NAD Karanja in Mumbai.
The ACTCM barges are designed to transport and handle naval armament, including ammunition, torpedoes, and missiles, supporting logistics both at dockyards and at sea. Each vessel has a 100-tonne cargo hold, facilities for fire fighting, power generation, and crew accommodation, and is built for a service life of 30 years. All major systems have been sourced from Indian manufacturers.
The design was developed in collaboration with an Indian ship design firm and certified by the Indian Register of Shipping. Model testing for seaworthiness was carried out at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory in Visakhapatnam. The vessels are currently in operational use by the Indian Navy for logistics readiness and fleet support.
Suryadipta Projects Pvt Ltd is a Thane-based micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) shipyard engaged in the design and construction of specialised vessels. The company has worked with Indian defence and ship classification authorities in the development of its products.
