Kolkata-based Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) has launched the third Diving Support Craft (DSC) for the Indian Navy. The vessel is part of a five-craft series under construction at TRSL, intended to support underwater operations such as repair, maintenance, and salvage inside and around harbours. The craft was launched into the Hooghly River on 12 September 2025 at 16:10.

The DSCs are catamaran-type vessels equipped with indigenous systems and are designed to assist the Navy’s Command Clearance Diving Teams. They will also function as advanced training platforms for the Navy’s diving cadre.

“The launch of the third DSC highlights Titagarh’s growing capabilities in naval shipbuilding and defence manufacturing, reinforcing its role as a trusted partner to the Indian Navy. These state-of-the-art crafts are vital for enhancing the Navy’s underwater operational capabilities, and we are honoured to play our part in building them indigenously,” said Umesh Chowdhary, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of TRSL.

TRSL has stated that the Diving Support Craft project will continue under its Shipbuilding and Maritime Systems (SMS) Division, which the company plans to transfer to a new entity, Titagarh Naval Systems, subject to regulatory approvals. The subsidiary will manage an order book valued at more than INR 5.75 billion, including taxes, and will operate from a planned facility in Falta, south of Kolkata, designed to handle ships up to 180 metres with an annual capacity of 12–16 vessels.

The company has delivered more than 35 vessels in past projects, including Coastal Research Vessels for the National Institute of Ocean Technology, the Indian Navy, and the Coast Guard, as well as international projects such as the MV Ma Lisha for Guyana. Its shipbuilding unit has also acquired land and a jetty at Falta SEZ for future expansion and has received a letter of intent from Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers for the construction of two Coastal Research Vessels for the Geological Survey of India.

Titagarh Rail Systems Limited operates across railway systems and shipbuilding. The shipbuilding and maritime business is in the process of being transferred to the newly planned Titagarh Naval Systems, while the parent company continues to focus on its core railway sector.
