Hitachi Industrial Equipment Systems Co. Ltd. (HIES), part of Hitachi’s Connective Industries Sector, has inaugurated a new manufacturing and sales facility in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, marking its first full-scale business operation in India. The opening ceremony was held on 3 November 2025, with the company now commencing local production of stationary oil-flooded screw air compressors for industrial use.
The new plant will enable the company to strengthen its presence in India by producing air compressors that were previously imported, while also establishing an integrated sales and service network. The local production model is expected to enhance customer responsiveness, strengthen after-sales support, and improve price competitiveness through domestic sourcing of components.
“HIES will not only bring advanced air compressor technology closer to customers, but we can also strengthen our ability to support their operations — whether in food and beverage, biopharma, automotive or beyond,” said John Randall, President and Chief Executive Officer of HIES. “Our goal is to deliver solutions that help Indian industries grow more efficiently and sustainably.”
The company stated that the facility will contribute to expanding the supply of digitalised industrial equipment, forming part of its broader strategy to scale up global infrastructure and advance Lumada-based solutions — Hitachi’s data-driven platform for industrial digitalisation. HIES also plans to consider manufacturing and sales of other product lines beyond air compressors as it deepens its engagement with the Indian market.
The establishment of the Gandhinagar facility aligns with Hitachi’s Connective Industries Sector strategy, which focuses on “Integrated Industry Automation” and the expansion of “HMAX Industry,” combining data from digitalised assets with artificial intelligence and domain expertise to enhance productivity.
