SATRAC Engineering Private Limited, a manufacturer of trailers and truck bodies, has inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in Chennai with a production capacity of more than 800 units per month. The 15-acre plant, including 3.5 acres of covered production space, increases the company’s combined peak production capacity to over 1,500 units per month across its Chennai and Bengaluru facilities.
The Chennai unit has been established to address demand for trailers, tippers, truck build-ups, tankers, bulkers, special-purpose vehicles and defence vehicles across logistics, infrastructure, industrial and government sectors. The facility is equipped with fabrication lines, plasma and laser cutting machines sourced from Germany, press brake equipment from Canada, automated shot blasting and precision painting systems, in-house quality testing facilities and robotic welding systems.
“With this facility, we have significantly raised the bar for trailer and truck body manufacturing in India. From robotic welding and advanced fabrication to integrated design & quality management systems, this plant reflects our commitment to building world-class products with uncompromising safety, durability, and engineering precision,” said MC Bantwal, Managing Director, SATRAC Engineering Private Limited.
SATRAC now operates two manufacturing facilities in Chennai and Bengaluru. During peak production months, the combined capacity of the two plants exceeds 1,500 units per month.
“SATRAC has been a valued partner of DICV since our inception, and for over a decade they have consistently demonstrated excellence in quality, delivery performance, and customer service in the supply of tipper bodies. As BharatBenz continues to strengthen its leadership in India’s construction and mining segment with our Heavy-Duty Truck range, having a supplier of this calibre in close proximity to our manufacturing plant is a significant strategic advantage — enhancing operational efficiency, improving turnaround times, and deepening collaboration,” said Torsten Schmidt, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles.
SATRAC’s service network comprises 170 service professionals stationed across India to provide after-sales support. The company said more than 4,000 trees have been planted as part of its environmental initiatives, and that the new facility has been engineered to maintain an ambient factory temperature 5 to 6 degrees lower than conventional facilities.
The company has outlined plans to establish three additional manufacturing plants, with a new facility planned approximately every 30 months. The next unit is scheduled for Jamshedpur, followed by facilities in Pune and Gujarat.
Founded in 1997, SATRAC Engineering Private Limited manufactures trailers, truck bodies and special-purpose vehicles and operates facilities in Chennai and Bengaluru. It is backed by Kyokuto Kaihatsu Kogyo Co., Ltd., Japan, which manufactures special-purpose vehicles and environmental systems.
