Hyundai Motor India has started engine production at its Talegaon manufacturing plant in Maharashtra, with operations beginning on June 16. The facility, acquired from General Motors, is part of Hyundai’s INR 60 billion investment in Maharashtra. The company had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Maharashtra government in January 2024 during the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The Talegaon plant, located in MIDC Phase-II Expansion, Tehsil Maval, Pune district, is expected to start passenger vehicle production in the fourth quarter of 2025. The facility currently has a manufacturing capacity of 130,000 vehicles and 160,000 engines per year.

Originally established in 2008, the Talegaon plant was previously operated by General Motors, primarily for export purposes, until operations ceased in late 2020. The plant includes a logistics distribution centre, training centre, project management office, and administrative facilities.

Hyundai Motor India, which marked its 29th foundation day on May 6, has sold a cumulative 12.7 million units in India since 1996. The company recently announced a commitment of INR 15 billion to upgrade its Chennai plant as part of its ongoing manufacturing expansion plans.
