Websol Energy System Limited has received approval from the Government of Andhra Pradesh to establish a greenfield 4 gigawatt solar cell and solar module manufacturing facility at the Multipurpose Special Economic Zone (MPSEZ) in Naidupeta, Tirupati district. The proposed facility will comprise 4 gigawatts of solar cell capacity and 4 gigawatts of solar module capacity.
The state government has approved an incentive package for the project, including land allotment, fixed capital investment subsidy, power tariff reimbursement, electricity duty exemption, subsidy on industrial water charges, and exemption from stamp duty and registration charges. These measures are intended to support the establishment of large-scale manufacturing capacity in the state.
Websol also plans to develop a 100 megawatt captive solar power plant as part of the project. The company said the captive plant is expected to provide renewable energy for the manufacturing facility and support operating cost efficiencies.
“The supportive industrial ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh provides a strong manufacturing platform for executing our 4 GW solar cell and 4 GW solar module growth strategy,” said Sohan Lal Agarwal, Managing Director of Websol Energy System Limited.
The proposed facility adds to the pipeline of large solar manufacturing investments being announced across India amid policy efforts to expand domestic capacity and reduce reliance on imports for photovoltaic equipment.
Websol Energy System Limited manufactures solar photovoltaic cells and modules in India. The company operates a manufacturing facility at the Falta Special Economic Zone in West Bengal, with an installed solar cell capacity of 1,200 megawatts and module capacity of 550 megawatts, supplying cells primarily to the domestic market and modules in India and overseas markets.
The project represents a major capacity expansion and is expected to strengthen domestic manufacturing of photovoltaic components. The approval was issued through a government order by the state’s Industries and Commerce Department and follows a memorandum of understanding signed with the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board on 15 November 2025.
