Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) has been awarded the Outstanding Project Award at the BRICS Industrial Innovation Contest 2024 for its solar-powered tricycle designed for individuals with disabilities. This tricycle utilizes solar panels to generate energy, reducing reliance on conventional battery charging and providing an eco-friendly transportation solution.
In August 2024, AMTZ launched these solar-powered tricycles in collaboration with the Composite Regional Centre (CRC) in Nagpur, distributing 30 units to beneficiaries. The initiative aimed to empower individuals with disabilities by offering cost-effective mobility and enhanced independence. The tricycles were designed and manufactured at AMTZ’s facility in Visakhapatnam.
The development of the solar-powered tricycle reflects a broader trend in India’s manufacturing sector toward sustainable and inclusive innovation. Efforts such as these not only address mobility challenges faced by differently-abled individuals but also contribute to the growth of renewable energy applications in transportation.
Recognition from platforms like the BRICS Industrial Innovation Contest underscores the potential for such projects to inspire further advancements in the manufacturing of assistive technologies, promoting both accessibility and environmental sustainability.
