Ajay Kumar Shrivastava has assumed charge as Director (Engineering and R&D) at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), effective July 15, 2025. Prior to this role, he served as Executive Director at HAL’s Aircraft Research & Design Centre (ARDC).

Shrivastava joined HAL in 1988 as a Management Trainee (Technical) and has worked with the company for 37 years. His previous assignments included leadership roles at ARDC and the Transport Aircraft Research and Design Centre (TARDC). Over his career, he contributed to projects such as the avionics upgrade of the HS-748 fleet, the Do-228 aircraft, the Sea King helicopter, and the IL-78 refuelling aircraft. He also led the team that secured Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) certification for two Do-228 aircraft and obtained type certification for the Hindustan-228, a civil passenger aircraft.

He has overseen the indigenisation of several aircraft components and participated in the design and development of trainer, fighter, transport, and rotary aircraft. Most recently, he led the avionics upgrade of the Hindustan Jet Trainer-36 ‘Yashas,’ which was showcased at Aero India 2025.

Shrivastava holds a bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering from HBTI, Kanpur, and a master’s degree in Aviation Safety and Aircraft Airworthiness from ENAC/ENSICA in Toulouse, France. He is also a certified Project Management Professional and has reportedly received the French Aeronautics & Space Industry Award (FASIA) for his contributions to the aerospace sector.
