Zoho Corporation has acquired robotics startup Asimov Robotics as part of its strategy to expand research and development (R&D) in emerging technologies. Founded in 2012 and based in Kerala, Asimov Robotics develops robotic systems for industrial applications. Following the acquisition, the Asimov team will continue operations from Zoho’s Kottarakkara office, working under the company’s internal R&D leadership.

The acquisition complements Zoho’s broader R&D initiatives, including the establishment of a new R&D campus in Kottarakkara, Kerala. The facility, which has a seating capacity of 250, is focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. The new campus follows the company’s earlier office launch in the town in 2024.

To nurture local talent, Zoho has launched a structured internship program that includes a three-month foundational course in C, C++, and Python, followed by six months of project-based work. Interns receive a stipend during the program, and 40 participants have been offered full-time employment to date.

Zoho has also partnered with the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) as the first industry collaborator in the Deep Tech Product Studio, a platform aimed at promoting innovation through partnerships with startups and research institutions. As part of this collaboration, Zoho will provide mentorship and explore joint development opportunities.

“This partnership with Zoho marks an important step in building Kerala’s innovation ecosystem, supporting IP creation and tech development in rural regions. The Kottarakkara campus, nearing completion, serves as a model for integrated development involving stakeholders in education, employment, infrastructure, and public-private participation,” said Finance Minister K. N. Balagopal.

“Our Kottarakkara campus will focus on expanding R&D efforts in emerging technologies, starting with AI and robotics. Alongside our internal work, we’ll collaborate with deep-tech companies to accelerate progress. Our goal is to build technological self-reliance in India. We appreciate the support extended by the state and local communities,” said Shailesh Davey, Co-founder and CEO, Zoho Corp.

In addition, Zoho has formed R&D partnerships with organisations including Boson Motors, Vipus Advanced Materials, vTitan, Zentron Labs, Verdant Telemetry & Antenna Systems, Netra Semi, Genrobotics, Energy 24by7, and IIT Bombay. These associations aim to facilitate knowledge exchange and address specific R&D challenges across different domains.

Zoho Corporation is a privately held technology company founded in 1996 and headquartered in Chennai, India. It employs over 18,000 people globally and owns technology brands such as ManageEngine, Zoho, TrainerCentral, Qntrl, and Zakya.
