Scandinavian Robot Systems India Pvt Ltd (RSP India), a subsidiary of Sweden-based Robot System Products AB (RSP), has opened its first manufacturing facility in Chennai. The new plant will focus on producing dress packs for industrial robots, including automatic tool changers, swivels, tool parking stands, and cable and hose management solutions.

The Chennai facility aims to support RSP’s strategy to localize production, improve cost competitiveness, and position India as a manufacturing hub for South Asia. RSP India began operations in November 2023.

According to the company, the facility will initially focus on local partnerships for production, with plans to expand the product range by leveraging the region’s manufacturing ecosystem. Eddie Eriksson, President of RSP AB, stated that localized production would allow the company to customize products more efficiently and strengthen its presence in the region.

RSP, headquartered in Västerås, Sweden, specializes in peripheral equipment for industrial robots, such as tool changers that enable robots to switch tools for various tasks like welding and drilling. These products are primarily supplied to system integrators and line builders, particularly for applications in the automotive industry.

India’s robotics market has seen significant growth, with annual robot consumption increasing from 1,500–2,000 units in 2002 to approximately 8,500 units in 2023. The International Federation for Robotics projects that India’s annual robot consumption could exceed 10,000 units in 2024.

This development reflects the growing adoption of robotics across industries such as automotive, general manufacturing, electronics, and consumer goods.
