Sundaram Clayton Limited (SCL) has commenced operations at a new die-casting facility in Thervoy Kandigai, near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The company has also introduced a 4,400-ton die-casting machine at its U.S. facility as part of its expansion strategy. These developments were announced alongside its quarterly financial results on January 31, 2025.

The Chennai facility will manufacture aluminum die-cast components for automotive applications, including engine parts and structural elements for electric vehicles. The plant is designed to cater to both domestic and international markets and incorporates digital manufacturing capabilities.

SCL, established in 1962, supplies automotive components to markets in North America, Europe, and India, with exports accounting for more than half of its revenue. The company’s recent investment in the U.S. facility is aimed at strengthening its production capacity for the North American market.

The expansion aligns with the broader industry trend of increasing demand for lightweight materials, particularly in electric vehicle manufacturing. Automotive companies worldwide are adopting new materials and technologies to improve vehicle efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

According to the company, these new facilities will support its efforts to meet evolving market requirements and enhance its manufacturing capabilities for global clients.
