German fan and motor manufacturer ebm-papst has announced an investment of INR 3.40 billion in a new manufacturing facility in Chennai. The plant, which will be the company’s third in India, is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. It will support operations serving the Asia-Pacific, Middle East, and Africa (APAC & MEA) regions.

The company has acquired a 14.2-acre site in Chennai for the project. According to a press release issued by ebm-papst, the facility is projected to employ approximately 700 people once fully operational.

“This investment reflects our long-term vision for India,” said Atul Tripathi, managing director of ebm-papst India. “By boosting local production, we are not only catering to the growing demand of our Indian customers but also creating sustainable employment opportunities that contribute to the country’s industrial development.”

The company stated that the plant is part of its broader “local for local” strategy aimed at regionalizing production. “By localizing production and strengthening supply chains, we are ensuring that we can respond quickly and effectively to the needs of our Indian customers,” said Thomas Nuernberger, chief sales officer of ebm-papst Group and CEO of Air Technology APAC & MEA.

ebm-papst has operated in India since 1996. In 2023, the company established a global capability centre in Chennai to support digital solutions for its fan technologies and internal global processes.
