Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), a subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG, has received the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Platinum certification for its Oragadam manufacturing plant near Chennai. The certification, awarded under the IGBC Green Factory Building Version 2 standards, recognizes the facility’s adherence to advanced sustainability practices.

This makes the Oragadam plant the first manufacturing facility in India to achieve this certification under the updated standards. The recognition highlights the plant’s efforts in energy efficiency, water conservation, renewable energy utilization, waste management, and biodiversity initiatives.

DICV employs the SPUR (Source, Produce, Use, Regenerate) principle as part of its sustainability strategy, contributing to reduced resource dependency and optimized operational costs. The plant is also aligned with Daimler Truck AG’s broader sustainability goals.

Satyakam Arya, Managing Director & CEO of DICV, stated in the company’s press release that the certification reflects the company’s commitment to integrating sustainability into its operations.

The Oragadam facility, which spans 400 acres, serves as a hub for DICV’s manufacturing, R&D, and training operations. It produces BharatBenz commercial vehicles and components for export to over 60 countries.

DICV has invested more than INR 9,560 crore in its Indian operations, positioning itself as a key player in sustainable industrial practices within the automotive sector.

The IGBC certification is part of DICV’s ongoing efforts to align with global standards for environmentally conscious manufacturing.
