The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has established a new research center dedicated to developing advanced AMOLED displays. The AMOLED Research Centre (ARC), supported by funding from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), and Tata Sons, aims to innovate in display manufacturing technologies for devices such as smartphones, tablets, and wearables.
The ARC features a cleanroom with equipment for fabrication and characterization, facilitating research into modular micro-factory concepts and economies-of-speed manufacturing techniques. These methods are expected to enable the development of OLED lighting prototypes and OPV power sources for mobile devices.
The center was inaugurated on December 23, 2024, at the IIT Madras campus, with MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan, IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti, and ARC Principal Investigator Debdutta Ray in attendance.
