BEML Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TuTr Hyperloop, a deep-tech startup incubated at IIT Madras, to co-develop India’s first indigenously designed Hyperloop transportation system. Under the agreement, BEML will serve as the principal manufacturing partner, while TuTr Hyperloop will provide design and technology expertise. The collaboration focuses on developing a prototype passenger‑and‑cargo pod powered by Linear Induction Motors (LIM) and Magnetic Levitation (Maglev) systems.
Hyperloop technology operates via sealed tubes maintained near-vacuum conditions, using Maglev and LIM propulsion to enable ultra-high speeds with minimal air resistance. TuTr, based at IIT Madras Research Park, brings automotive and aerospace engineering expertise and has explored applications in sectors such as ports, mining, and logistics.
The MoU was signed in the presence of key officials including Interim CMD Shantanu Roy and IIT Madras director Prof. V Kamakoti. The partnership is expected to combine BEML’s decades of manufacturing experience with TuTr’s cutting-edge research capabilities.
Separately, BEML has secured a defence contract valued at INR 2.82 billion from the Ministry of Defence for the supply of 8×8 Heavy Military Vehicles—a major boost reflecting the company’s diversified operations across defence, rail, mining, and construction sectors.
Headquartered in Bengaluru, BEML Limited is a public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Defence that manufactures rail coaches, military vehicles, earth‑moving equipment, and other infrastructure products. The Hyperloop initiative marks a significant step in the company’s evolution into next-generation transportation technologies
