Prime Toolings, a Bengaluru‑based precision engineering firm, has developed a rotating detonation engine (RDE) tailored for short‑range missile systems with ranges of approximately 300 km to 500 km. According to the company, the engine leverages continuous detonation waves in an annular combustion chamber to achieve constant‑volume combustion, which in theory can improve fuel efficiency by up to 25 percent compared with conventional propulsion technologies.

The prototype engine features a compact, lightweight design using advanced materials and additive manufacturing techniques, enabling precision and weight savings. Prime Toolings stated that prototype ground tests have demonstrated stable detonation cycles and thrust output consistent with missile propulsion needs. The company describes the engine as being in the 1–2 kN thrust class.

Prime Toolings manufactures a broad portfolio of aerospace propulsion systems—including liquid, solid, hybrid and electric propulsion, as well as complete missile engines and booster systems—all developed in‑house. Founded and based in Bengaluru, the company positions itself as a precision engineering firm aligned with aerospace and defence quality standards.
