PACE Digitek has inaugurated a state‑of‑the‑art battery energy storage systems (BESS) manufacturing facility at the Bidadi Industrial Area near Bengaluru. The new plant, with an annual cell‑to‑pack production capacity of 5 GWh, features a fully automated assembly line designed to optimize efficiency and minimize manual intervention.

At the launch event, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi emphasized the pivotal role of reliable energy storage in India’s journey toward a 500 GW non‑fossil fuel capacity by 2030.

Citing the Central Electricity Authority, Joshi noted that India will require 411.4 GWh of energy storage by 2032, comprising 236.22 GWh from BESS and 175.18 GWh from pumped storage projects (PSPs). He referenced projections by the India Energy Storage Alliance, which forecast investment of INR 4.79 trillion in the sector by the same year.

The minister also revealed plans for additional viability‑gap funding (VGF): INR 54 billion earmarked for 30 GWh of BESS capacity, augmenting the existing INR 37 billion, which has already supported 13.2 GWh of projects. Between 2022 and 2032, India plans to add over 47 GW of battery storage, with estimated investment of INR 3.5 trillion, according to Joshi.

The Union Minister also underscored that boosting domestic manufacturing not only satisfies rising demand but also reduces imports and ensures grid stability. PACE Digitek’s new facility aligns with this aim, supporting renewable integration and enhancing grid management capabilities.
