Reliance Defence, a company promoted by Reliance Infrastructure, has partnered with US‑based Coastal Mechanics Inc. to establish Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul (MRO), and upgrade services for defence platforms. The partnership targets India’s estimated INR 200 billion (approximately USD 2.4 billion) MRO and lifecycle support market.
The partnership will deliver end‑to‑end MRO and upgrade solutions for a range of Indian defence assets—over 100 Jaguar and MiG‑29 fighter aircraft, Apache attack helicopters, L‑70 air‑defence guns, and other legacy systems—aiming to extend platform lifecycles and implement performance‑based logistics models.
The partnership includes a joint venture based at MIHAN (Multi‑modal International Cargo Hub and Airport at Nagpur) in Maharashtra. Its services will cater to both domestic and export markets. Coastal Mechanics, a US Department of Defense‑authorized contractor, brings over four decades of experience in armament systems, spare‑parts manufacturing, and reverse engineering.
Recently, Reliance Defence secured a INR 6 billion export order from Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH and signed a cooperation agreement with Diehl Defence to produce Vulcano 155 mm precision‑guided artillery munitions in India.
Reliance Defence, part of the Anil Ambani‑led Reliance Group, focuses on manufacturing and services in the defence and aerospace sectors. Its activities include technological partnerships, export deals, and domestic production aligned with India’s military modernization goals.
