Reliance Defence Limited, a subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure, has entered into an agreement with German defence manufacturer Rheinmetall AG to supply explosives and propellants for medium and large-calibre ammunition. The partnership also includes joint marketing efforts for select products. This is Reliance Defence’s third international collaboration, following previous joint ventures with Dassault Aviation and Thales Group.

To support this arrangement, Reliance Defence plans to establish a wholly owned Greenfield facility in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra. The site, part of the Dhirubhai Ambani Defence City, will have an annual production capacity of 200,000 artillery shells, 10,000 tonnes of explosives, and 2,000 tonnes of propellants.

“This Strategic Partnership of Rheinmetall with Reliance Defence led by Anil Ambani’s Reliance Group illustrates our strong commitment to partner with India under the strong leadership of Prime Minister Modi,” stated Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall AG.

“We are delighted to partner with Rheinmetall AG, a global major in Defence Industry and a visionary leader like Armin Papperger. This is a transformational moment for the Indian Defence sector and for Reliance Infrastructure’s subsidiary Reliance Defence”, said Anil Ambani, founder of the Reliance Group.

Reliance Defence Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure. The company operates in the defence manufacturing sector and has previously formed international joint ventures to expand its capabilities.
