Mahindra & Mahindra has commissioned a crash test facility constructed by MESSRING, a manufacturer of automotive safety testing systems, in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. The facility, designed to test both internal combustion and electric vehicles, is part of a broader investment exceeding INR 3 billion, which also includes a battery and cell research lab.

The crash testing infrastructure includes a 316-meter track equipped with MESSRING’s MicroTrack system for precision vehicle guidance and an octagonal film pit for improved video capture. Additional components include a rollover foundation, a laterally movable crash block for complex scenarios, and an outdoor crash block designed specifically for electric vehicle tests. The setup also features fixed and movable barriers such as an Offset Deformable Barrier (ODB) and a pole barrier integrated with a Flying Floor system for dynamic impact testing.

Designed to comply with international safety regulations including ECE R95, ECE R34, Bharat NCAP, Australian NCAP, and Euro NCAP, the lab supports frontal, side, rear, and rollover crash tests. It also accommodates full frontal and angular car-to-car impact scenarios and is equipped for future system upgrades.

The lab can test vehicles weighing up to 4 tons at speeds of up to 120 km/h. It includes zones for vehicle preparation, observation, tear-down, painting, soaking, and future expansion. A dedicated area supports electric vehicle crash testing.

Located about 55 km from Mahindra Research Valley, the facility is integrated into Mahindra’s broader product development and proving track ecosystem. According to MESSRING, the project reflects its continued role in delivering global crash testing systems.
