Saint-Gobain, a manufacturer of industrial materials, has begun construction of its seventh float glass line and fifth mineral wool insulation line at its manufacturing site in Oragadam, near Chennai. The expansion adds a float glass capacity of 1,000 tonnes per day and a mineral wool insulation capacity of 50,000 tonnes.
According to the company, the new float glass line is designed to reduce energy consumption and environmental impact and will incorporate advanced digital capabilities for operational efficiency. The mineral wool insulation facility is planned as a near net-zero carbon plant.The Oragadam location will also house facilities for gypsum plasterboards, plasters, and acoustic ceilings, making it the company’s largest multi-business manufacturing hub in India.
