Safran Data Systems has expanded its operations in India with the opening of a new facility in Chennai. The facility is part of the company’s broader effort to enhance its presence in the country’s aerospace and defense sectors, specifically in telemetry, tracking, and communications solutions.
The newly inaugurated facility is expected to bolster local capabilities and contribute to innovation in defense technologies. Safran Data Systems, which was previously known as Captronic Systems before being acquired by Safran Electronics & Defense in 2022, has been operating in India for over 25 years. The company specializes in the development and supply of automated test equipment and simulation systems, with applications across aerospace, defense, and automotive sectors.
With over 170 employees, including 150 engineers, Safran Data Systems operates across multiple cities in India, including Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, and Trivandrum. It has been involved in several significant Indian space and defense programs, working as a partner to organizations like the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). Some of its contributions include work on missions such as Chandrayaan, Gaganyaan, and Aditya-L1, as well as the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas and Airborne Early Warning and Control System (Netra).
The new Chennai facility marks another phase in Safran’s expansion strategy, aligning with the company’s efforts to harmonize its global branding under the Safran Data Systems name.
