Fujifilm Electronic Materials is planning to establish a large-scale semiconductor materials manufacturing facility in Dholera, Gujarat. The facility would mark the company’s first significant direct investment in India and is intended to serve semiconductor wafer processing clients, including international manufacturers such as TSMC and GlobalFoundries.
According to General Manager Tetsuya Iwasaki, the company is evaluating three potential operational models for the plant: a wholly owned production unit, licensing to Indian firms, or forming a joint venture with Indian semiconductor companies. “India’s skilled workforce, technological capabilities, and growing domestic demand in areas such as automotive, electronics, data centres, and module packaging make it a strategically important market,” said Iwasaki.
The plan was discussed during the Semicon India 2025 event. Discussions are ongoing with industry partners and government authorities regarding regulatory approvals and the most suitable collaboration structure. A final decision on the facility model has not yet been confirmed.
Fujifilm Electronic Materials is part of Japan-based Fujifilm Holdings Corporation and supplies a range of materials used in semiconductor manufacturing processes. The company operates globally, serving clients in wafer processing and related applications.
