Suzuki Motor Corporation and Maruti Suzuki India Limited have announced plans to establish the Osamu Suzuki Centre of Excellence (OSCOE) in India. The initiative aims to promote Japanese manufacturing practices across a broader range of industries and is proposed to be set up in the states of Gujarat and Haryana.

According to the companies, the centre will focus on enhancing the competitiveness of Indian manufacturing. Specific goals include improving the standards of automotive component manufacturers, including tier-1, tier-2, and tier-3 suppliers, and strengthening the global competitiveness of domestic supply chains.

The OSCOE will also support the development of infrastructure and educational programmes in collaboration with academic institutions and other stakeholders. Activities will include formal teaching, lectures, discussions, and seminars related to Japanese manufacturing philosophy.

The centre is intended to operate beyond the automotive sector, extending its reach to various manufacturing domains. The proposal was made in memory of Osamu Suzuki, former chairman of Suzuki Motor Corporation, who passed away in December 2024.

Maruti Suzuki stated that the OSCOE will contribute to improving overall manufacturing standards in India.
