Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) plans to build a fourth production line at its Vithalapur plant in Gujarat, with operations scheduled to begin in 2027. The new line will have an annual production capacity of 650,000 units, increasing the total capacity of the fourth plant to 2.61 million units.

The company will invest approximately INR 9.2 billion (approximately JPY 16.1 billion) in the expansion, which is expected to generate 1,800 new jobs. The new line will focus on manufacturing 125cc class motorcycles.

HMSI’s fourth plant began operations in February 2016 with an initial capacity of 600,000 units. It expanded to 1.2 million units later that year and reached 1.96 million units in January 2024 with the addition of a third line. Once the fourth line is operational, the company’s total annual production capacity across all four Indian plants is expected to rise from 6.14 million units to around 7 million units.

With the additional investment in our fourth plant, Honda will continue to deliver attractive products and services to its customers around the world who have higher expectations and trust in the company, and further solidify its Indian motorcycle business,” said Tsutsumu Otani, President & CEO of HMSI.
