Azista Space Private Limited on 22 January 2026 conducted a groundbreaking and foundation stone laying ceremony for an electro-optical payload manufacturing facility at Khoraj Industrial Estate in Sanand, near Ahmedabad. The project involves an investment of INR 5 billion and is intended to support space- and defence-related manufacturing requirements.

The facility will focus on the manufacture of space-grade electro-optical payloads and related systems. The unit is being developed at Gujarat Space Park in Sanand as part of the company’s capacity expansion plans.

“This INR 5 billion investment is a strategic move toward building sovereign capabilities in military-grade electro-optical payloads. The facility will play a critical role in supporting national security, space missions, and advanced surveillance requirements, while positioning India among global leaders in this highly specialized domain,” said Srinivas Reddy, Managing Director, Azista Space.

The company stated that the upcoming facility is expected to enhance indigenous manufacturing of advanced electro-optical systems, reduce dependence on imports, and support national and international space and defence programmes. It is also expected to generate skilled employment across manufacturing and engineering functions once operational.

The ceremony included a traditional ground-breaking ritual and presentations outlining the scope of the project and its role in the company’s expansion plans. Representatives from the Gujarat state government and local administration were present at the event, along with senior officials of the company.

The groundbreaking and foundation stone laying ceremony was done by Arjun Modhwadia, Minister for Science and Technology, Forest and Environment, and Climate Change, Government of Gujarat. Addressing the gathering, he said, “It is encouraging to see Gujarat emerging as a key hub for the space sector in India. Strategic investments such as Azista Space’s Electro-Optical Payload Factory highlight the state’s strong industrial ecosystem and its role in supporting advanced, high-technology manufacturing for the nation.”
