Kirloskar Brothers Ltd., an Indian multinational engineering company providing fluid management solutions, has inaugurated a new factory building at its Kaniyur manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. The development coincides with the company completing 100 years since the manufacturing and installation of India’s first centrifugal pump in January 1926.

The new factory building has been developed to improve productivity, strengthen operational efficiency and support advanced manufacturing processes at the site. The expansion is intended to help the company address growing domestic and international demand while continuing to meet established quality requirements.

Kaniyur is one of Kirloskar Brothers’ key manufacturing locations and supplies products to both Indian and overseas markets. The additional infrastructure is expected to support the adoption of newer manufacturing technologies and process enhancements over the long term.

Rama Kirloskar, Joint Managing Director of Kirloskar Brothers Ltd., said the new building reflects the company’s long-term confidence in India as a manufacturing base and its preparedness for future demand. She added that the expansion strengthens the company’s ability to deliver technologically advanced and reliable solutions while continuing its focus on customers, workforce development and broader industrial growth.

The company has also incorporated renewable energy into the facility’s operations. Around 80 percent of the electricity requirement at the Kaniyur site is now met through renewable sources, primarily from an on-site solar power installation. The project is expected to reduce carbon emissions by about 122.5 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent and cut Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 89 percent.

The shift to renewable energy is also expected to improve energy efficiency and lower operating costs, with estimated annual savings of approximately INR 2.16 million.

In parallel, Kirloskar Brothers is expanding into new business segments. In the United States, the company’s operations are moving beyond the supply of standalone components to offering modular, containerised packaged systems for data centres. These systems integrate piping, control systems and valves for fire protection, primary cooling and secondary cooling applications.

The company has also recently secured a contract to supply 14,000 pumps for petroleum applications, competing against suppliers based in the United States.

Kirloskar Brothers Ltd. manufactures pumps, valves and related systems used in sectors including water supply, power generation, oil and gas, and industrial processes, with manufacturing operations in India serving both domestic and export markets.
