Ornet Tanks Private Limited inaugurated a new transformer tank manufacturing facility in the Kadi–Mehsana region of Gujarat, marking a step towards backward integration for its parent company Ornet Transformers Private Limited. The facility has been set up to supply transformer tanks for captive consumption and is intended to support tighter control over a critical component in transformer manufacturing. The development is aimed at improving production timelines, quality oversight, and supply chain efficiency.

The new unit has an installed production capacity of 400 metric tonnes per month and is designed to manufacture transformer tanks weighing up to 15 tonnes. The facility is located close to Ornet Transformers’ existing manufacturing operations, enabling logistical integration between tank fabrication and final transformer assembly. The facility is equipped with a 12 kilowatt laser cutting machine, CNC press brakes, cylinder rolling machines, shearing equipment, shot blasting booths, paint booths with drying chambers, and electric overhead travelling cranes.

The in-house manufacturing of transformer tanks is expected to reduce dependence on third-party vendors and allow closer monitoring of fabrication, welding, surface treatment, and finishing processes. Transformer tanks house the core and windings and are required to meet structural, thermal, and corrosion-resistance requirements, particularly for outdoor and high-capacity applications. Internal fabrication is expected to shorten lead times and support customised tank designs for specific applications such as renewable energy projects.

Ornet Tanks Private Limited operates as a dedicated arm of Ornet Transformers Private Limited, which manufactures power, distribution, and application-specific transformers. Ornet Transformers was originally founded around 2014 as Ornet Transformers LLP and was incorporated as a private limited company in September 2023. The company manufactures transformers with capacities of up to 15 megavolt amperes and voltage classes of up to 66 kilovolts, including oil-cooled transformers, cast resin dry-type transformers, solar and wind application transformers, and compact substations.

Prior to recent expansions, Ornet Transformers had an installed manufacturing capacity of about 1,000 megavolt amperes per annum. The company holds ISO 9001 certifications and states that its transformer designs conform to IS 2026, IEC 60076, and BS 171 standards. The transformer manufacturing unit is located near Medha Chowkdi on the Thol–Kalyanpura Highway in Kadi taluka of Mehsana district, Gujarat.

Ornet Transformers is part of the Ornet Group, which has business interests spanning chemicals, real estate, and investments. The group’s chemical operations, focused on dyes and intermediates, form its original business, while the transformer and allied manufacturing activities represent its expansion into the power equipment sector.
