Magellan Aerospace India Private Limited has begun construction on an expansion of its Tumkur facility in Karnataka, marking the next phase of capacity growth at the site. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on 21 January 2026 at the company’s existing operations in the KIADB Industrial Area at Antharasanahalli.

The expansion is intended to support long-term business growth and strengthen the company’s operational base in India. The event was led by Jason Addis, Vice President at Magellan Aerospace, along with directors Jasdeep Bevli, Pradhudeep Shivakumar, and Prabhuram Kaushik. The ceremony included a traditional pooja, followed by the formal groundbreaking, and was attended by senior leadership and members of the local management team.

A key strategic driver for the expansion is a suite of long-term agreements signed in mid-2025 with Pratt & Whitney Canada. These contracts, which run through 2034, cover the production of complex machined components for multiple aeroengine programmes. To meet the technical and volume requirements under these agreements, Magellan has committed to installing a new advanced machining cell at the Tumkur site, with the current expansion providing the physical space for this investment.

The Tumkur facility is Magellan’s centre of excellence in India for hard metal machining, focusing on titanium and stainless-steel components used in aeroengine and aerostructure applications. The site is export-oriented, with components supplied to global commercial and defence aerospace platforms. The expansion is expected to add to the existing footprint at Tumkur to accommodate additional machining centres and related technologies referenced in the company’s recent strategy updates.

Magellan operates a second major facility in Karnataka at Devanahalli, located in the Aerospace Special Economic Zone near Bengaluru airport. That plant, spanning about 140,000 square feet, is focused on high-speed machining of aluminium components, while Tumkur concentrates on hard metal and engine-related work, creating a complementary operating model within the state.

The Tumkur project also sits within a broader India strategy outlined by Magellan during 2025. In addition to expanding machining capacity, the company has entered into a 50:50 joint venture with Aequs in Belagavi to establish aerospace-qualified sand casting capability, and has indicated plans to explore engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul activities in Karnataka.

Magellan Aerospace India Private Limited’s Tumkur facility received the RTX Excellence in Supplier Collaboration award at the RTX Supplier Conference held in Bengaluru around two months ago. The recognition was presented in the category of supplier collaboration, reflecting coordination between the Tumkur team and customer and partner organisations involved in programme execution.

About one month ago, senior representatives from Airbus visited Magellan Aerospace India’s aerostructure facility in Bengaluru and the company’s recently established joint venture with Aequs in Belagavi, Karnataka. The visiting delegation from Airbus’s Senior Materials and Parts Procurement team was led by Dominique Arnal, along with Jaime Ayllon and Douglas Reid, and included a tour of the fully automated API 4.0-metre tank processing facility at the joint venture site.

Magellan Aerospace India Private Limited is part of Magellan Aerospace Corporation and supplies precision-engineered components to global aerospace customers, with India positioned as a long-term hub for machining, casting, and potential aftermarket support activities.
