Embraer and Hindalco Industries Limited have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to conduct exploratory activities to assess potential business opportunities in India’s aerospace-grade aluminium sector. The joint initiative is aimed at identifying opportunities in aluminium raw material manufacturing to support Embraer’s industrial initiatives in the country.

The companies will evaluate possibilities for aerospace-grade aluminium production in India as part of Embraer’s industrial engagement in the market. The move is aligned with Embraer’s ongoing efforts to expand its presence in India and engage with domestic industry participants.

“This joint action reinforces our focus to identifying local partners that can become our suppliers and, in doing so, accelerate the development of the Indian industrial base,” said Roberto Chaves, Executive Vice President of Global Procurement and Supply Chain at Embraer. “The initiative enhances Embraer’s engagement to advancing the aerospace ecosystem in India, creating long term value across the entire supply chain”.

The MoU comes as Embraer continues to assess industrial capabilities in India across areas including aerostructure assembly, machining, metal forming, composites, wiring systems, and hardware and software development. The company said it has been in dialogue with local industry leaders and government stakeholders as part of this evaluation cycle.

India is a strategic market for Embraer across its commercial aviation, executive aviation, and defence and security businesses. The company has 47 aircraft operating in the country, including five VIP jets operated by the Indian government and three EMB 145 AEW “Netra” aircraft operated by the Indian Air Force.

Embraer, headquartered in Brazil, manufactures aircraft for commercial and executive aviation, defence and security, and agricultural applications. Since its founding in 1969, the company has delivered more than 9,000 aircraft and maintains industrial sites, offices, service centres, and parts distribution facilities across the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Europe.

Hindalco Industries Limited, the metals flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, operates across the aluminium and copper value chains, from bauxite mining and alumina refining to aluminium smelting, rolling, extrusions, and foils. The company has 52 manufacturing facilities across 10 countries and is also a major producer of copper in India.
